Today Jon sewed on his promotion that he earned a year ago--Staff Sergeant. He's now an official non-commissioned officer, and gets to go by Sgt. Steele rather than Airman Steele. Oh, and he gets a pretty nice raise.

Nope, they promote you (after passing the test) according to time in the AF and time in current rank. So last year he'd only been in for 2 1/2 years and at current rank for 6 months, so he was at the bottom of the list (they can only have so many at this rank at a time).
Congratulations to Jon. We are proud of him.
