Update
Emily's appointment today went well--her chest sounded much clearer, and while her ears were still red, they seemed to be getting better (plus, she's still on antibiotics). She was given the all-clear for school tomorrow, and we turned in that horrible breathing machine.
Yesterday I should've taken a video called "This is your child on drugs." She was WIRED and pretty moody after all of those breathing treatments. Poor Jon stayed home with her, so I took the evening shift; by then, she was so exhausted from no naps that she slept through her last treatments.
Today she seems more like herself--she even rolled out of bed and fell right back asleep. I'm not sure whether to blame this whole episode on allergies (maybe the window installers stirred something up? Or the cold front?) or what, but I sure am glad it's over.
PS--Thanks for the Halloween PJs, Grandma.

Sick again
I've never really felt like Emily's been a "sick baby" until the past 6 weeks--two earaches and now this. We don't have an official name for this. She wheezed and had a fever all Sunday night. Before bed we thought it was just croup, but it became evident that it was something more. So yesterday (originally meant to be "date day" since I was off for Fall Break) we spent more than two hours at the doctor getting bloodwork and breathing treatments and shots. She has an earache on one side, we're doing breathing treatments 3x/day, and we go back for a recheck tomorrow. Sounds like some sort of asthmatic bronchitis, but they want to rule out pneumonia, too. Yikes.

Windows

I didn't look very hard to find a good "before" picture, so this one is about three years old. We just replaced all 11 windows in our house with new, wonderful, argon-filled, double-paned windows. I'm very excited, and I think our utility bills will be, too. Not to mention we used to have screens on maybe two or three windows, and now they've all got screens, so we can actually open windows on nice fall days like today.
Appointments
*Emily's ears have finally cleared up, and she doesn't need tubes (can't remember if I posted about that or not). At 15-months she weighs 22 pounds and is 29 1/2 inches long (25th percentile), but that head is still off the charts. At least she's getting the chance to actually wear out her clothes.
*My 14-week (3 1/2 month) appointment went great--only one heartbeat, thank goodness. We'll find out on Jon's birthday (Nov. 7) what gender this little munchkin is. I must say, I have no inkling, and no preference. The due date my doctor is going with is April 15th.
*I finally got new contacts--my last one tore, so I've been wearing my (old prescription) glasses for about two weeks. When you don't have vision insurance, Wal-Mart does a pretty good job for a fraction of the price.

After school at the park
Friday we went to the park, and I learned several things. I met some nice moms who shared some juice & snacks with Emily. I learned some park etiquette--like when the strange boy comes over and chugs Emily's sippy cup, it's okay to take it away from him. Emily's got quite the arm when it comes to throwing sand. I learned that Emily makes friends pretty easily (she played with the little red-haired girl quite a bit). Maybe I'll make park Friday a habit.

Thank Goodness It's Monday
Okay, I know I'm actually posting on Tuesday. But I didn't have time yesterday.
I'm glad last week is over. Jon probably worked at least 80 hours at church on the auditorium remodel. I'll post pictures when it's totally done--some of the lights that came in were defective. On Saturday, my mentor, friend, and adopted mom in Oregon passed away after a long battle with cancer. On Sunday, Emily decided to show me that "child-proof" is just a suggestion, and helped herself to a little too much of her prescription cold medicine, so we spent four stressful hours watching her and calling poison control to give them updates. Luckily, all was fine; the last report we had to give to poison control was very appropriately at midnight. So, I'm glad the week is over, and we're starting fresh.
